Ok folks, time to catch up.
We had a pretty good first night at home.
Rod was able to get into bed
almost totally by himself.
He woke up every 2 hours throughout
the night, but I think it was more
habit than anything.
His knees started hurting during
the night and he needed a pillow
under his left hip to relieve some
pressure there, but otherwise
he did well until about 5:00
and then we both moved to the living
room to our recliners.
The morning went by quickly.
I swept and washed the floors,
then broke down all the boxes from
the past 2 weeks deliveries,
and then made Rod some breakfast.
He was so happy to get some
REAL eggs for a change!
His appetite is much smaller since
he basically ate nothing for the
past 2 weeks, 1 egg, 1 slice of
bacon and 1 piece of toast was all
he was able to eat.
But he happily ate it ALL.
Then I sat down to tackle the 2 weeks
worth of MAIL.
While I was doing that, Kyle came by
to sit with Rod while I ran into town
to pick up his medicines.
Stopped at Tractor Supply to get some
pig feed and met a lovely young lady.
She's the cashier and is always so sweet,
but somehow we got talking and I mentioned
Rod just got out of the hospital. She said her
Dad is in kidney failure and in and out of
the hospital as well. She mentioned how hard
it was not only physically, but also emotionally
and spiritually. I told her how well Rod was
doing and she said "I don't know if you are a
believer, but I know that is a true miracle!"
I told her about the lady at the hospital the
first night who gave me the little mini Jesus.
Pulled it out of my pocket to show it to her,
and she reached in her pocket and pulled out
her own little mini Jesus.
She promised to pray for us by name that night.
It was a nice moment.
Then over to WalMart to try to replace the
cane I bought in Wichita. I didn't even notice
that it only had 3 of the 4 little rubber feet.
Darn it.
Of course, they didn't have any of them,
so I bought some tennis balls instead.
Then I decided to go ahead and get
the food to have Christmas dinner on Sunday.
(Including the absolutely required
fruit salad!)
I guess my brain isn't working all that well
yet though, have a little decision fatigue or
something, because as I was unloading my
cart to pay for everything, I noticed a pile
of papers in the front of the basket.
Oh yeah! The whole reason I went into
town was to get Rod's medicine!
And I TOTALLY forgot about it!
So, I paid for all the groceries and headed
over to the pharmacy, picked up all the
other-the-counter stuff and then picked
up the prescription stuff.
And THEN I headed home.
Rod was happy to finally get his meds.
It was over 24 hours since his last pain
meds (I only have ibuprofen at the house,
so he got a couple of those, but that didn't
really cut it...)
Kyle hung out with us for a little longer.
He cut holes in the tennis balls
and got them all installed on the cane feet.
And then he headed home to keep working.
While I was gone, he ran my new cast iron
frying pan he gave me for Christmas through
two sessions of seasoning.
After he left, I did one more session.
And then Rod and I both took a nap.
Dinner was boxed mac & cheese and
homemade pickled beets.
Some Hallmark movies and off to bed.
He had a better night last night, although
his hip started hurting again.
I put a lidocaine patch on it, and after
about 15 minutes he said, I guess now
that my hip doesn't hurt, I can notice how
painful my knees are.
(grin)
I lathered him up with some arnica gel
on his knees, but it didn't really help
this time, so he got up and moved to his
recliner about 4:00.
This time I stayed in bed and woke
up at 8:00!!!
Once I was up and coherent, I
made some eggs and bacon
in my new pan!
I love the gold / copper color. I know it will
turn black later, but I'm loving this now...
It was DELICIOUS!
We spent the day mostly walking back and
forth to and from the bathroom and
around the house - just trying to
stretch his legs and get a little exercise.
(I did sneak out while he was napping
and went to Dollar General and got a
metal pancake turner to use in my new pan,
and then to the local hardware store
to try to find a toilet chair thing.
They didn't have one...)
But I DID run into a friend from the
farmers market and visit with her
for a few minutes.
I had a good visit on the phone with Soni
and another one with Rozann.
While we were on the phone, he got up,
I thought he went to the bathroom, but he
never came back, I found him snugged up
in his bed, sound asleep.
When he woke up, he headed into
the bathroom and gave himself a
shave and a mustache, goatee trim.
He felt much more human after that.
Maybe tomorrow I'll give him
a haircut.
This evening I made us a batch of
spam casserole and we had some of
that for dinner.
Now more Hallmark movies until 9:00
when I give him his final meds for the day,
and then we will head off to bed.
It was a beautiful day outside today,
but tonight there is a cold front coming through.
The high tomorrow is 29, but with wind
blowing about 40 mph.
So the "feels like" is zero.
BRRRRR.
Since Rod doesn't have any coats that can
fit over his brace, we are going to
zoom church tomorrow.
I imagine the next few days will not be
very exciting. I'll keep everybody posted,
but it's going to look an awful lot like today.
Lots of TV.
A little napping.
Some eating.
Snore.
LOL.
That's what healing looks like.
And he's rocking it.
And honestly, I think we've had
enough excitement for awhile.

Totally agree... enough excitement for a while... enjoy the "snore!"
