Dr. Appts

Yesterday was a nice, quiet day.

It was 57 degrees out when we went to bed.
Overnight a cold front blew in... with high winds
(Kyle got awakened several times with the
howling wind!)
and a significant drop in temps.
When we got up it was 18, feels like 0.
And there was blowing snow.
It only made it up to 25, so the snow is still there.

Kyle came by to get his Sunday clothes and
pick up a box of library stuff Rod ordered for
the church library.
He said the highway was clear, but the
roads in town were pretty slippery.
It was an adventure getting to church,
but he made it there and back, safe and sound.

Rod continues to progress.
He's sleeping better (still waking every morning at
3:00 with a sore left hip and sore knees. A lidocaine
patch on both knees and one on the hip takes care of it...)
and is getting up to use the bathroom.

He's lost about 15 pounds and is looking
pretty slim.

He decided he should probably start wearing
his brace when he is in his chair.
It's not super comfortable, but he said he
feels better wearing it.

Looking good dude!

Kyle poked a hole in a pizza pan I bought
at our Dollar General, and installed the little
drawer knob I bought at our hardware store.
Now I have a lid, so I can make our breakfast!

And I made some bacon and eggs in
my new cast iron pan he got us for Christmas.

After church, we put a turkey breast in the
pressure cooker (35 minutes instead of 3 hours
in the oven...) and made all the fixin's so we
could have a belated Christmas dinner.
Mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, green bean
casserole, sweet potatoes & mini marshmallows,
turkey, cranberry sauce, and FRUIT SALAD.
There's a pecan pie in the freezer, but I don't like
pie and he doesn't like pecan, so its still out there.
(grin)

I sent him home with lots of leftovers.

We had a good sleep last night.
Rod was up in his chair about 5 this morning.
And when I got up at 8, I got on the phone
and made a bunch of dr appointments.
We go to Wichita on Wednesday to see his
spine surgeon.
And then again on Monday to see his lung dr.
We need to make an appointment with an orthopod
to see about his chipped hip.
But I was on hold for 25 minutes trying to make
an appointment and finally gave up.
His left hip is bruised and causes him pain at night,
but the right hip has a chip in the bone.
No discomfort, but we should get it seen.
There are no ortho docs here.
So another trip to Wichita.

I need to run into town and get all the
property taxes paid for this year.
I'll probably bundle Rod up and let him
ride with me.
(I'll leave him in the car while I go in though...)
He's wearing his brace in the chair,
so hopefully being in the car won't be any worse.
