Carrots!!!

The other day, Kyle dug up the carrots.
Snapped the tops off
and put them in a big bucket.
With a TON of dirt, since the beds
were still pretty wet from the snow.

Yesterday I washed them all.
I started at the kitchen table with a
bowl of water, carrots and a nail scrubber.
But that was taking too long, so
I moved to the kitchen sink.
Put the sprayer on and washed them
into a bowl (to contain the mud...)

Once they were all clean, I layered
them on towels to dry a little and
then cut the ends off...

Hey! the kitchen towel matches the kitchen floor!
I never noticed that before!

We got a nice BIG bowl full!

Once they were all trimmed up, it was time to
put them in the food processor with the dicer attachment.

It isn't perfect, but works pretty well...

And a gazillion times better than doing it by hand!

Next on to 5 freeze dryer trays.
And out to the freezer.
(I could have just left them on the porch... it was
SEVENTEEN outside overnight!)

This morning I'll turn on the FD and get them
in and start drying them.
I plan to put them in mason jars and toss them
into random things like soups, chili, etc
along with my FD grated zucchini.
I keep a couple of jars in the kitchen for
easy "dump and go" stuff.
(I also have a jar of sliced celery... I should
have diced it, but I forgot I had it... lol.)

Anyhow.
Welcome SOUP SEASON!
