Pictureless Tuesday

I brought my iPod and my white chord so I could
plug it into my computer and download pictures.

But when I pulled the chord out of my purse,
It was for my Kindle.

Dang.

STILL no pictures!

Yesterday we got another white egg.
Did I tell you we got a white egg?
Probably not.
Since I got it on Saturday and haven’t
Blogged since before that.

Yah, I know…

So…
Saturday I got a white egg.
Has to be from one of the new girls.
I’ve never gotten a white egg before.

Stark white.
At first I thought it was a golf ball!
(I keep a golf ball in some of the nest to
“encourage” the girls to lay there…)
Then I thought somebody was punking me
with a WalMart egg.
LOL

The girls all have their favorite spots.
And now somebody (or 3) has discovered the bag
of shavings UNDER the nest boxes.
Inside the bag.

Sheesh.

Anyhow.
Scott (Rod’s older brother) was over to help
Fix the lawnmower.
I try not to think how old that thing is.
We each got a riding lawnmower from Yamaha.
YEARS ago.
More than 20.
Lots more than 20.
It’s a BEAST.
And it does a good job.

It needs a new seat.

I should buy Rod one.
Except Kyle does most of the mowing.
So I should buy Kyle one.

Or put a towel on it.

Anyhow – it quit working earlier this spring.
We’ve been borrowing the neighbor’s
And letting the horses do their thing.
They aren’t very efficient.

Rod and Kyle have worked on it.
And worked on it.
And ordered parts.
And worked on it.

Finally Scott came over.
I went shopping.

Two hours later it whirred to life.
YEA!!!!!

Meanwhile, I gathered the eggs.
And there was a white one!
I thought it was a fluke.

But last night when I opened the new girls’ house
There was another one.
AND my first blue egg!
I got an “Easter Egger” chicken
in this last batch of rescue chickens.
But she hadn’t laid anything yet.
And not all Easter Eggers lay a colored egg.

But this one does!
Yippeeeee!
(I want several more…)

I took a picture.
See above.
LOL

Soft

It's August in Florida.
Which means it's hot.
And humid.

But having just returned from Utah in August
where it's hot
and DRY
it's a whole different feeling.

When I left the office for lunch,
it was in the mid 90's outside.
Slightly overcast.
But my first thought was the air was...

soft...

Unlike the dry, crisp, edgy air in Utah.

This has a soft, moist edge to it.

I kind of love it.

My Darling

While we were on vacation,
an important thing happened.

My beloved had his birthday.

And I didn't blog about it.

Which was gently brought to my attention.

Ha.

We DID, however, celebrate it.

My darling sister provided his FAVORITE
German Chocolate Cake.
YUM!

And he played Spoons, Uno and Cheat with
the girls.
They had a great time!
Unfortunately, he didn't win.

Ok.
He lost.

I KNOW I have a picture of him with his cute
DONKEY
sign on his forehead.
But there are so many different sources of pictures
I can't find it.

Everybody loved him!

Especially his little shadow, Otis.

But nobody loves him more than us.
His biggest fans!

Happy Birthday (last week) My Darling!!!

Blessed

I had an amazing vacation!
And I'll blog about it one of these days soon.

But first...

I had to teach down in Boynton Beach this past weekend.

But because of vacation, we did a "split" class.
(Weekend 1 was before vacation,
weekend 2 was after... with a break in the middle)

That's certainly not ideal.

So all my "serious" students finished up on the off weekend
at another class.

Saturday I only had 4 students left.
But one of them had to leave early.
(His company called - major snafu - had to go back to work.)

And then there were 3.

One told me his son was starting college on Monday
so and his wife were taking him to his new dorm on Sunday
but he would be back in time to take the final exam.

And then there were 2.

The 2 that were left were "back row" students.
Nice kids.

But they didn't show up on Sunday morning.

And then there were none.

I hung around until 10, just in case,
and then cancelled the class.
(Let the Dad know, so he didn't rush back for nothing)

Drove home and enjoyed the rest of the day
with Rod and Kyle.
Then Jim and Sabrina called and invited us to dinner
at their place.
Chicken, green beans and cheesey taters.
YUM!

This morning, I got up, fed the animals, got ready and jumped in my truck.
It was Dead.
Not dead.
DEAD.

My giant diesel has two batteries under the hood.
It takes a lot to start that baby.

They were BOTH dead.
DEAD.

It could have happened at the airport in Orlando
in the middle of the night.
It could have happened in Boynton Beach over the weekend.
It could have happened at my office on the other side of town.

But instead it happened in my driveway.
Next to a spare truck.
With two capable mechanics sleeping inside the house.

I am SO BLESSED!

I'm Soooo Excited!

I’m Sooo Excited

Oh great.
Now that song is going to be stuck in my head all day.

But luckily I got a TON of mail to process.
I’ll be really busy.
Which should make the day go fast.

Cuz it’s……

Mornings... Aaaaaah

I really do love mornings.

I love evenings too – but this year the
“No See-ems” are REALLY bad!
So, while I love sitting out on my cool Adirondack chair
and watching the critters
(and probably reading a book)
It hasn’t happened much lately.

But the mornings are BEAUTIFUL.

The sun is rising a little later each day.
Which is a total bummer.
But it’s still nice and light,
Cool,
Relatively low humidity
(ha!)

The girls are all just waking up and “talking”.
(Except Mama and the babies – they are
DEMANDING they be LET! OUT! NOW!)

And then there were six.  They have learned how to get out into the pasture.
And there's a hawk out there.
And dogs.
And cats.
And who knows what else...

Little Yellow enjoying breakfast.
I let them out first so they can at least eat SOMETHING without
the "Aunties" chasing them away.

I think this little blue guy might be a rooster.
Only time will tell.
She will lay an egg.
Or he will crow.
50/50 right?

The horses are munching on their yummy sweet feed
(nothing better than oats and molasses!)

The dogs are checking out the smells from the overnight visitors.

The bunnies are getting in a quick morning
dash around their cages and waiting for breakfast.

Except Bob.
He’s lazy.

Rod is getting EXCITED for vacation…

The mirror is covered in "count down" messages!

Feast or Famine

Busy day yesterday.
Well, normal day at work,
but after work…

It started with a dash home to let the chickens out.

The babies are getting BIG!
Some of them are starting to get trail feathers.
They are so cute!
No.
I didn’t take a picture.
But I will…

Then over to a new “park” the Town just dedicated.
Several members of the various boards/committees
from the town got together to walk the property
and come up with ideas for future use.

Naturally the bike guys are eyeing it for
bike trails/paths.

It’s 17.5 acres the state donated gave to the town
and then the town dedicated it to our recently
deceased Mayor.

It is a nice piece of property.
Overgrown.
WET.
But with lots of trees (palm and oak) and a nice
little creek running through it.
We spent an hour checking it out
And then had the obligatory
Photo Shoot.

Yah, I'm trying to be invisible - in PINK.

Then to return the dog crates the new laying hens
(who are not yet laying)
came in last weekend.

Then, to WalMart to get some groceries.

And then to Jim and Sabrina’s to wish her a
HAPPY BIRTHDAY
and give her a little gift.

Then grab a quick Burger King sandwich in the drive thru
and back to the house to bring in the chickens
(it was dark by then, so they were already “in” just had to close the door)
and then into the house to wash eggs.
(We ended up with 10 dozen for the week…)

By then, Kyle was home and helped me with the eggs.
FINALLY got to sit down and eat some dinner
Watch a little TV
And head off to bed.

Naturally, there is NOTHING on tap for tonight.

Feast or famine folks.
Feast or famine.
