Quick Trip

Well, that's over...  LOL  It was a nice, quick trip.  It was 75 outside when I left Melbourne.  A beautiful, clear sky with a light breeze.  Lovely!

On the drive up, I chatted on the phone with Mom & Dad for a little bit (did you get the bird food all paid for???  grin)  and with Rod for a little bit.  I was driving north in Florida, he was driving south/west in Arizona (and getting BLASTED by the afternoon sun...)

Just before I got to Jacksonville, there was a "front line" of clouds - a very nearly straight line and then solid clouds behind.  Called Jim as I passed the Green Cove Springs exit (#328) - that's where he'll be attending school in 2 weeks.

FINALLY found my hotel (forgot to write down the address, so pulled into a McDonald's parking lot and fired up my new laptop, hooked into their wifi and got it that way...), checked in, dropped off my suitcase, checked my makeup and headed over to the office.  It was super easy to find.  However, when I got out of my truck - I nearly DIED!  It was like 43 degrees!  With a SUPER cold wind.  And I had no coat.  No gloves.  No scarf.  (HELLO, what was I thinking??????)

Met with some of the folks I would be working with and took a quick tour of the place.  It's quite the place!  It's Jimmy Meyer's home office (he is a Senior National Sales Director who nets over $3million each year so it BETTER be nice!)  and lived up to the hype.  Got to meet Jimmy for a moment - everybody I was meeting with was stuck in the wonderful snow in Atlanta the night before and until just before time to leave, I wasn't even sure if we were going to do this.  They braved the highways and drove home, taking an extra 3 hours in some cases!  Most of them have never even SEEN snow before, let alone driven in it.  Glad I wasn't on the road with them!  Talk about white knuckles!  So they weren't too sympathetic when I said it was 75 when I left.  (And they countered with - it was 17 and SNOWING when we left....  beat THAT!  LOL)

We got all set up in a fancy conference room and I spent 2 hours going over some of the chapters most people have trouble with - 3 of the new teachers have lots of experience teaching and one is the wife of a Regional Vice President and although licensed, hasn't really done anything with it for 8 years.  LOL  She was pretty nervous about the whole thing.

We broke for dinner at 6 and they told me there was a Quiznos (like Subway only more $$$) next door.  I thought they meant in the shopping center on the corner.  So I got into my truck looked up and there was Quiznos.  NEXT DOOR!  How silly did I look driving NEXT DOOR!  (Good thing nobody was watching...)

At 7 we got all set up in Jimmy's personal office (NICE DIGS) since they were having a training meeting in our little conference room and a HUGE orientation meeting in their "auditorium".  (It really is one too!  Complete with stage and sound/lighting podium/station/thingie...)  We ended up with 21 students, the 4 new instructors, and me.  I leaned up against the wall with a white board propped on a folding chair on one side and a HUGE 7 foot tall trophy poking me in the back on the other side.  Couldn't move if my life depended on it!  But it was a GREAT class with good questions, comments, and participation.  (Kind of like teaching Relief Society, only insurance.....)  I don't wear a watch these days (silly me) so at one point I asked how much time we had left and he said... well, you can probably finish this chapter...  (I had been going for nearly 2 hours...  get me talking and GOOD LUCK SHUTTING ME UP!)  I had a great time.  The instructors took lots of notes.  We broke up about 9:30, put his office back together and then met in yet another little room for a "debriefing".  (These are ORGANIZED people!)  I think we got them all situated so they can duplicate this on their own.  They will be running these mini cram courses twice a week, twice a month.  (2nd and 4th Tues / Fri)  We were finally finished around 10:30.

And then I had to go back out to my truck.  Man I wish I could run without falling on my face, causing immediate shin splints, or looking like a total dork.  While carrying books.  And a water bottle.  And I REALLY wish we had gotten around to fixing the door lock on my truck door.  It's only been broken for ... 3 years?  4 years?  Back when I was still teaching in Winter Springs and my truck was broken into at a Quality Inn on a Sunday morning.  Sheesh, I haven't taught there in YEARS!  Anyhow, I have to walk around to the passenger side, unlock the door, reach inside and pop the lock for the drivers side, relock the door, and walk around to my side.  Unless it's raining.  And then the inside popper doesn't work and I have to crawl over and open the drivers side door.  Oh well....  I'm kinda used to it now.  Except when it's raining.  Or it's FREEZING OUT AND I HAVE NO COAT, GLOVES, OR SCARF!!!!!

Talked to Rod for a bit.  He was having dinner with Josh and his new wife Vicki.  Josh is Jim's best friend's older brother and Rod's best friend's oldest son.  The family that moved to Snowflake.  They got married last January and are expecting their first in March.  Cute couple.  Had a good visit and they took pity on him and drove him to WalMart so he could get some apples, bananas and batteries for his flashlight.  I called him again to "celebrate" 11:11 on 1/11/11.  (Except since he was in Phoenix, it was only 9:11, but NO WAY I was calling back in 2 hours...)

This morning I got up, it was HOT in my hotel (I turned on the heater before bed) so I didn't work out.  (ICK - I hate working out when it's HOT and no fan...) so I just jumped up, brushed my teeth, put on some clothes (but still no coat or hat, etc....) stuffed everything in my suitcase and ran out to my truck.  (The news said it was 33 with a windchill of 23.  I tried not to think about it...)  I was out of town by 7:15.  Lucky too!  GIANT pileup resulting in delays of over 2 hours on the highway right behind me!  (I was able to listen to the radio station from Jacksonville until almost home!  So listened to all the coverage of the wreck...  GLAD to not be in it!)

Now I'm back at the office and ready to get back to my regular work.  I still need to call my boss and let him know how it went, but he's traveling today (assuming he can get a flight out - more airport closings because of the big snow storm up north...)  And then tonight it's Activity Day Girls.

Here's what's on tap....

Cute, eh?????  And super easy - just sugar cookies, icing and semi-melted marshmallows.  http://www.crazydomestic.com/2010/12/melted-snowman-cookies.html We'll bake the cookies and while they are cooling, make some homemade lip gloss (coconut oil, beeswax and essential oils) and then decorate them.  That should burn up the hour.....  LOL

Have a great day!  (oh yah, it's going to be 32 outside here tonight.  sheesh)

YUM!

Ok... so I'll never be a food blogger.  I always forget my camera!  And then when I DO remember to take pictures, my new camera is a Kodak and doesn't upload into "my pictures" on my computer.  And doesn't import into my blog.  (at least that I have been able to figure out...)  So I have to put them in a gallery, then save each one individually into my pictures, THEN upload them into my blog.  Yah, that's gonna happen on a regular basis....

But I want to be more consistent with my blog - so pictures will have to be for "special" occassions.  (Or when I have time AND I'm sitting at the boy's computer at home... my new laptop only has 3G of space, so I'm not putting photos on there yet...)  (since I'm computer illiterate and to me 3G sounds like a pint as opposed to a gallon...  LOL)

So...

Over the weekend I tried a new crockpot recipe from my FAVORITE website www.crockpot365.blogspot.com    It was SUPER easy and super good!  Now, I'm also a pepper geek.  I don't eat anything warmer than medium salsa.  (And often chose mild ...)  So it says something that I liked this!

I bought a 2.5 lb chuck roast and popped it in the crockpot.  Then opened a jar of peperocini peppers.  Dumped the whole jar on top.  Put on the lid (I used my new 5 quart crock the boys gave me for Christmas) and set it on low.  Left for Stake Conference.

8 hours later, Jim put it on warm.  An hour or so later, I opened the lid, used a slotted spoon to transfer the meat and peppers to a big bowl.  Used 2 forks to shred the meat.  Cut open a sourdough hoagie roll (from the WalMart bakery), piled some meat and peppers on the roll.  Put 2 slices of provolone cheese on the meat and stuck the whole mess under the broiler (in the toaster oven) for a minute or two until the cheese melted and the other side of the roll got a little toasted.

Can I just say......  YUM!

2 ingredients!  (well, ok 4, if you count the bread and cheese...)  Jim and I each had it again for dinner last night and both really liked it!  (Kyle is a bigger pepper wimp than me so he had ramon noodles...)  There's enough for another round of sandwiches, but I'm out of rolls, so I either need to get more, or get creative.  It might be really good on a bed of rice.....  or egg noodles...

But I won't find out, since I'm heading to Jacksonville (north Florida) later today.  IF the people I'm meeting with can get out of Atlanta...  They are all stuck up there in the snow storm.

Give this a try - it's EASY, CHEAP, DELISH!  And makes lots!  With a green salad on the side, it's a good meal............

Music.... Awakens WEIRD Memories!

I've been listening to an oldies radio station lately (since the Christmas music blitz is over and my regular station has started getting TONS of static...)

Anyhow, I don't "listen" so much as "have it on".  I listen to Glenn Beck in the mornings and sometimes Jim will call and say "did you hear that????"  Nope... it's on, but I'm not actually listening!  LOL  Oh, to have dvr on radio...

Anyhow (again) I was posting money the other day and heard a piece from George Harrison's album Dark Horse.  I am NOT the kind of person who knows artists/albums normally.  But this particular album, well, has the word HORSE in it.  ha ha ha ha ha

AND it has a rather strong memory attached.

I was sick.  Really sick.  Like stay in bed for a couple of days sick.  But not like when Sondra had pluerosi (sp) or anything.  Just sick.  I must have been in grade 7 or 8?  I was in the upstairs lavendar bedroom.  I had the album on the turn-table with the arm retracted so it would play over and over and over and over and over.*  And I read Lloyd C Douglas' The Robe.  Cover to cover.

The book and the album are permanently glued together in my soul.

And, somehow, Merrill Atkey is in there too.  Maybe it was her record?  I don't think she turned me on to The Robe... although about that time she introduced me to Jane Eyre - another perenial favorite.  (Not a year goes by that I don't read Jane Eyre, Rebecca and The Robe.)

Anyhow - that's how my mind "works" when I'm "working".

You're welcome.

*I'm pretty sure Mom came in at one point, checked to make sure I wasn't dead, and CLOSED THE DOOR!  LOL

**I also have a pretty distinct memory of Soni and I reading the Gollum chapters from Lord of the Rings on her bed downstairs.  She read for awhile, then had me read.  I looked up after reading a chapter or 2 and realized she was ASLEEP!  But by then it was too late.  I was HOOKED!  Thanks!  I read that one over and over too.

BUSY Day Ahead

Today is going to be a busy day for us...  Rod got up at 4, was on the highway by 5, and delivered 2 loads in the Atlanta area this morning.  Now he's cooling his heels until he can do his final off-load - but as it stands it won't be until midnight TOMORROW!  Lucky he has lots of paperwork etc to do.

I, on the other hand, slept in until 6:15!  (horrors!)  Got up and headed outside to feed the horses and let the dogs out.  Buddy is getting older and has started choking on his feed unless you soak it, so the whole process takes a little longer than it used to.  But that's ok - he's such a great little horse, we don't mind.  (Well, Kyle minds... but whatever...)

Back in 2004 when we first bought him.  His mane is MUCH nicer now...

See?
Then back inside to get ready for work, feed the dogs, etc.  Then back out to let the boys out of their stalls and head to the office.

Once I got to work I did a quick set of Primary Back Stretch (in the bathroom) and then jumped right in opening envelopes and posting money.  A little later I did a Chair workout that really helps stretch out my back and warm me up (it's been COLD in my office today!) and then ate some orange chicken for lunch.

I'll be here until 5:15 and then I'm heading to the Melbourne school to teach a review from 6-10.  And then it's home again to hit the hay!

Hope you are all having a fabulous day!  (Rozann says it's COLD in Tucson! Brrrrrrrrr)

He's OFF again...

Rod has been home with us since before Christmas.  And it has been WONDERFUL!  But it's time for him to get back on the road (and making money) so he's been anxiously awaiting news that he has a load.

They finally came through this afternoon yesterday (forgot to post this...) with a load in Leesburg (100+ miles north of here) heading to Georgia.  So it's back on the road again... (cue Willie Nelson)

He'll leave left here a little before 5, headed over to the place where his trailer was stored, hooked up and now he's back in business.  He spent the day making little tweaks and changes to his truck to make it perfect for the next 6 weeks out there.  (He isn't scheduled to come home again until February 10!)

When I get home (I'm at the office) I'll update with some pictures of his truck.  One of the changes was to put 3 little buffaloe heads on his dashboard!  (Thanks Mom!)  (I made him give me one so I could put it on my computer at work...)  They are SO cute!  However, his ENTIRE truck is either plastic or aluminum, so we got some sticky-back velcro and stuck them up with that.
