Starting to Look Like a New Roof

Well, on Tuesday they got started....
I felt bad, it was about ... surface-of-the-sun hot.
They started around 8 and finished just after
9:00 at night!!!!

They tore off the old shingles right down to the wood.
Replaced some of the boards but luckily not TOO many.
(At $100 a piece of plywood... that is ridiculous!)

They put blue tarps all around the house to catch
all the junk that falls off the roof while they are working.
And then at the end of the day they gathered it all
up and ran a big magnet around to make sure they
got all the nails.

They all wore big, floppy straw hats.

Looked for a bit like we might get some rain, but it held off.

They brought their own dump wagon and filled that thing
all the way to the top!

Here it is, all dried in.
We passed the dry-in / nail-in inspection this morning.
Our new building official is really thorough.
When I met him at the office later he said we picked
the best roofing company in the county.
They are pricey, but you get what you pay for.
They take good care of their workers, so they are
happy, work hard, and do a great job.

This morning they delivered a whole slew of shingles.
But no workers today.
I emailed them and reminded them they can't shingle tomorrow.
At least not in the morning.
I'm Zooming until 1 and they make a LOT of noise.

So I expect they will finish up next week.
Which is fine, I work nights next week.
They'll just have to knock off at 6.

At least we are getting started...
and there are no hurricanes on the horizon.
That's always good when you don't actually have
a real roof.
